Does HearBest Lafayette – South treat vertigo and dizziness, or only test for it?
Both. Our Balance & Dizziness Clinic at Lafayette – South diagnoses the cause of dizziness with VNG and VEMP testing, then treats it. Treatment includes canalith repositioning for BPPV, led by Dr. Sandy Bratton, AuD, our vestibular and balance specialist. When vestibular rehabilitation exercises would help, she’ll recommend them with a physical therapist.
What is canalith repositioning?
Canalith repositioning is an in-office treatment for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), the most common cause of vertigo. BPPV happens when tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear move out of place and cause brief spinning spells when you move your head. Dr. Bratton guides your head and body through a series of positions, such as the Epley maneuver, to move the crystals back where they belong. Many patients feel better after one or a few treatments.
Does HearBest offer vestibular rehabilitation?
Vestibular rehabilitation is done by a physical therapist, not at HearBest. If your evaluation shows that balance exercises would help, Dr. Bratton will recommend vestibular rehabilitation and let you know what to look for, and we’ll continue to follow your care here.
What balance and dizziness tests do you offer?
We offer videonystagmography (VNG) and vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) testing, which help pinpoint whether dizziness is coming from the inner ear or elsewhere, so your treatment plan targets the real cause.
